The NTW weekly club update starts on a sad note this week. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Lulu, Joseph, Luke and Joey Donnelly on the passing of Lulu’s sister Maria recently. May she rest in peace. Club Spins: Sunday Orange/Red Group club spin: A request went out to those on the orange/red group spin on Sunday morning to send in a report. Many thanks to those who kindly sent in reports! There was one report who’s author shall remain nameless, which was chosen as the “winner” for this week. Club Spins: Sunday Orange/Red Group club spin: The mixed orange/red group headed out on a cold but initially dry Sunday morning in the direction of Limerick on the R445 (old main road). As we carefully(!) approached the railway crossing after Herbert’s Bar, it was noted that a very dark and ominous cloud was heading our direction from the west. As we had intended turning for home in Castletroy anyway, we decided to turn left and left again onto the Newport road and head back in the direction of Nenagh. Club Spins: Sunday Orange/Red Group club spin: The orange/red group had a fine turnout of 14 members ready for road on a cold but dry Sunday morning. The group departed Moynan’s at 9am and headed towards Cloughjordan, turning right for Ballymackey and back on to the old Dublin road. A brisk pace was being set up front and the cold wasn’t long being forgotten about. A few members turned for home at Toomevara/Moneygall and the remaining 11 headed for Roscrea and a welcome coffee break. Leaving the warmth of the coffee shop is never easy to do on a cold […]

These are last weeks notes, due to technical issues with the website! Club Spins:   Saturday Red Group spin: Pat, Daniel, Nanno and Andy took on the damp conditions last Saturday morning. Leaving Nenagh and heading in towards Limerick, the group turned left for Newport at Daly’s Cross, and then before Newport the group turned right for Murroe and on to Cappamore and Doon. A halfway stop for a café con leche at this point was very welcome. A left at Doon brought the group up over the hill and onto the Newport to Thurles road where they turned right, […]

An Old Bike Made New for Christmas

Posted on

NTW Member Brendan “Aggie” Hayden has shared with us a wonderful project he undertook last year. He took a sentimental piece of history and restored it to it glorious best! Well done Aggie, you did an fantastic job,   “While lots of kids received new bikes for Christmas, for my Dad (Tom Hayden), this Christmas brought a bike that certainly had the look of something new but was definitely from another era. In the early 1950’s, he had purchased a second-hand Raleigh for “8 quid” from Corrigan’s Bike Shop on Mitchell Street from the late Jimmy Brett. It has been […]
