The Flying Mile was held on Thursday evening (6th Sept) on a measured mile in the N52 bypass in glorious sunshine! And we added a 5th man to the total who have achieved under 2 mins and that was the very-in-form Tommy Hanrahan. He clocked in at 1.59 and very well done to him. He won the 3rd group while Brian O’Neill took group two and Aidan Killeen outpaced Duncan Hodgins for group 1. A good evenings sprinting and well done to all who took part.
The weather wasn’t good early, people were still on holiday and lads were away racing but we still had a reasonable sign-on. To add to our woes, we had to change the course at the last minute as resurfacing had taken place. In stead of the Ballinderry route, we used plan B, rugby club to Ballinamona into Toomevara and finish at Lisboney – still a course of 12 miles. There was a bunch sprint finish which meant we got the time adjustments right! Duncan Hodgins just pipped Peter Moynan to third place while Pat Bergin, last years winner slugged it […]
It’s amazing the effect the weather has on club races. If it’s too wet, cold or windy only a few hardy souls turn up and if it’s too warm, sunny and dry, people have other things to do! So as last Thursday was a beautiful warm, sunny dry evening, the sign-on was low for TT6, the last in the series. The route was a 15 ml one from Rosemount, Carrigatoher to Birdhill and return. Of those who started out, two did not complete the course. Eoin Woolley punctured while Shane Scully had an disagreement with a difficult driver which sadly […]
Apologies for any confusion but due to the deferrment of the Tri v NTW race because of holidays, we are running the final race in the J.Moynan TT Series THIS Thursday (9th) and next Thursday (16th) will be a training spin as Billy Shanahan’s Trip to Tipp is on that Sat and Sun and is usually well attended by the Wheelers. The final result of the TT Series will be announced this weekend.
The weather was quite good – dry at least – and there wasn’t any wind to speak of but still there wasn’t a huge sign-on leading us to assume that the majority of our riders don’t like climbing hills! This race was used as a Warm-Up race to allow us to have some idea of handicap times for the Club Championship Hill Climb which will be contested in just a months time. The route was Newtown and Portroe with the finish at the school and the start was at the Belleen roundabout – a distance of 5.4 mls. Being a […]
