While the rest of us were racing on the “sunny” side of Nenagh yesterday evening, the North Tipp Wheelers Team for Saturday’s Team Time Trial were getting soaked doing their final training session on the N7. Team members are: Pat Bergin, Tommy Hanrahan, Liam Callaghan, John Foote, Brian O’Neill and Dan Hogan. Thanks to Mags Bergin who drove and Lisa who videoed the footage.
This weekend sees a number of North Tipp Wheelers taking to the roads of North Tipperary for the Visit Nenagh Classic. On Saturday, 6 members will take part in a unique event – a Team Time Trial – which kicks off at 2pm from the Five Alley and runs along the old N7 to Birdhill and back. I’m sure the lads would appreciate some support on the day so, if you’re free, come along and shout them on. Suggested viewing points are Yellow Bridge, Roundhill Bar, Birdhill and Five Alley.
On Sunday a number of members will race in the Classic with members entered in the A3 & A4 categories. Again all support will be welcome. Both races will pass through Portroe, Ballina and along the N7 with the A3 route taking in Coum, Templederry & Latteragh (Seanins) before heading for home through Toomevara.
Thanks also to the members who are helping with the North Tipp Sports Partnership Family Cycle on Sunday.
The first race of the season and what a race it turned out to be! The conditions were damp and murky but that did not deter 8 pairs from taking part and amazingly only 3.27 separated the first from the last. Mikey Connors, making a welcome come-back, and Gary Rowan took a well-earned third place while only 2 seconds parted the 2nd pair, Brian O’Neill and Duncan Hodgins from the winners, John Foote and Julie White. This was Julie’s first club race win and on last night’s performance it certainly won’t be her last! And no better man to lead her home than TT expert John Foote. Well done to them and well done to all who took part – it really was a great race. Many thanks to Mike Sheedy who marshalled for us and to Vic and Tracy who took some great photos.
Next week is the first roadrace of the season – a 10 mile race from Kilkeary to Lisboney via Toomevara. Meeting place is Moynan’s shop at 6.30pm.
With the evenings getting brighter and the weather getting better (we live in hope!), we look forward to welcoming more members out on the roads at the Sunday club spins and training sessions. With this in mind we will now be running 3 groups from Moynan’s over the coming weeks as follows:
Group 1: 18-23kph (12-14mph) (This group is ideal for beginners to group cycling)
Group 2: 24-27kph (15-17mph) ( This group is best suited to those with a bit more experience and those who aspire to club racing)
Group 3: 28+ kphh (18+ mph) (Club and open racers group).
All three groups will head in the same direction with groups 2 & 3 riding the same distance and route. This means that riders can try a faster pace for a few kilometres, safe in the knowledge that there will be another group behind should they need to drop back.
No one will be left behind.
Currently the meeting time is 9.30am. This will change to 9am from Sunday April 6th.
Evening spins from Moynan’s commence next Tuesday, April 2nd at 6pm and will run every Tuesday. Club racing starts on Thursdays on April 11th.
