Club Notes Weekend January 26th 2014

Pat and Moynans

opennight2

The club open night on Wednesday 22nd January was a great success judging by the high attendance and the sign-on of new members.  Moynan’s Bike Shop Nenagh provided the relaxed atmosphere for the evening where everyone was welcomed by club chairperson/president Pat Bergin. Details of club leisure, racing and mountain biking were explained to non-members interested in joining.  Club secretary Mike O’Keefe was on hand to assist with both club membership and the online Cycling Ireland membership.  The club Captain Liam Callaghan demonstrated the latest turbo training technology with a stationary bike connected to a screen allowing anyone to try their efforts on various virtual continental cycling passes. A representative from ‘Giant’ bike manufacturer presented an interesting insight into carbon bike technology and everyone who attended left with a goodie bag. Group training continued on Saturday with the race training spin. However, the group of thirteen riders was subjected to more adverse weather conditions than was forecasted. Despite the freezing wind, frequent showers and galeforce gusts, it was punctures and mechanical difficulties that forced a slight deviation to the planned 120km route. Still 100km was covered in a circular route that left Nenagh for Portroe, Ballina, Newport and onto Rearcross before turning at Inch for Curreeny, onto Dolla and home to Nenagh. Club training will continue throughout next week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and  Saturday and Sunday mornings. Further details can be found on the club website (www.northtippwheelers.com) and club facebook.  All club members and particularly racing members are reminded that club and Cycling Ireland membership for 2014 should now be paid to ensure all licenses are obtained before the race season.

Upcoming events:

On Saturday 8th February the club will be hosting a ‘Pre-race leg wax’ at the Thatched Cottage Ballycommon starting at 9pm. This is a sponsored event to raise funds to support the club race team during the forthcoming season.  The club will also be supporting Pieta House Nenagh (suicide and self harm counseling service) for this event.  Raffles, food and post wax music will be provided.  We need legs (preferably unshaven) and would ask club members to support this event which is sure to bring smiles to some and potential tears to some racing team members!  The shaving order has yet to be determined so feel free to make an additional donation to ensure you go first!   Waxing will be kindly provided by ‘Tres Belle Beauty Saloon’.

On Friday March 14th the club will be hosting a general knowledge quiz night at the Dapp Inn at 9pm and all are welcome.  Further reminders will be given prior to this event
