The mix of cycling events and activities continued this week for club members at home and abroad. On Sunday last, club member Kevin Byrne took part in the 22nd edition of L’Étape du Tour – the cyclosportive event on the route of the 18th stage of this years Tour de France. This year’s event was held in the Pyrenees four days before the professional peloton passes between the French towns of Pau and Hautacam and that included two of the Tour de France’s most prestigious ascents – the 17km Col du Tourmalet and the 13km Hautacam.
Mikey Connors secured the win on Thursday’s 30km club road race displaying his fine form this season on what was a lumpy route that started in Nenagh and finished on Ardcroney via Clough and Borrisokane. Tuesday night’s training ride had a strong contingent of 11 taking to the road and covering 60km. The race training spin had 9 riders cover 115km on a figure of 8 loop which included Borrisokane, Terryglass, Puckane, Nenagh, Silvermines/Yellow Bridge before the group split to take in two different return routes to Nenagh.
