The Start list ahead of Thursday Nights 30Km road race (including Mike Sheedy [bike marshall] and Jan White)The North Tipperary Wheelers Sunday morning club leisure and intermediate spin is growing in popularity. Whilst this is great for the club, this club ride provides the opportunity to cycle with similar and more experienced cyclists. All existing members and those interested in joining the club are invited to attend. This Sunday, 23 members from the leisure, intermediate and senior groups took to the road setting out north from Nenagh. The intermediate route followed the pre-set ride that included Borisoleigh, Terryglass, Ballinderry, Knights cross, and Ballycommon before returning to Nenagh in a 65km route. The senior group rode an extended deviation of this route and a total of 110km at a strong pace that included Birr and Roscrea before returning to Nenagh. The previous day, 6 riders on the Saturday Race Training ride ventured on a new route in Co. Clare that brought them to Clonlara before ascending to Broadford from the Limerick side and returning to Nenagh via Bodkye, Tuamgraney, Ballina/Killaloe, Coum and Portroe – a total of 105km. Earlier in the week, the Tuesday night club training ride saw eight riders cover 80km at an average of 30kph whilst a similar number took part in the Limerick Summer League on the same evening.
On Thursday night last, club member Julie White secured a top 10 position in the Womans National Time Trial Championships in Mullingar amid a very competitive field. At home, it was race 10 in the club domestic race calendar that same 13 riders took part in the 30km road race. With a tight bunch working well together there was little opportunity for escape and so everything was still left to the sprint finish in Dolla where David Kyle would emerge from the group to cross the line first in torrential rain ahead of Mikey Connors and Gary Rowan in that order. Race results are available under ‘Results’ section. Next weeks club race will see the 26km Hill Climb Championship. Details of the route are available on the club website and all members are encouraged to race.
Training continues this week at the same times. Tuesday Nigh at 6pm and Sunday at 9am both from Moynans and 9am Saturday from Woodies carpark for the race training ride. Further details of routes and Thursday nights club race will be available on facebook/northtippwheelers and the club welcomes new members on these rides. For further details of any club events or club membership please contact club chairperson Pat Bergin 0876744400.
